Ithaca, N.Y. - The men's track & field team hosted the Ithaca Invitational Tuesday. No team scores were kept. Ithaca won five of the meet's events, including a pair of wins by junior Cory Petermann (West Morris-Mendham/Chester, N.J.). Petermann won the javelin throw for the third straight meet (56.55 meters/185-06) and was also the winner of the discus (40.37 meters/132-05).
Freshman Jeff Wetmore (Maple Grove/Bemus Point) also won a pair of events Tuesday. Wetmore ran the third leg of the winning 400-meter relay team (43.16), teaming up with junior Chris Covino (Melrose/Melrose, Mass.), sophomore Jon Lin (Taipei American/Taipei, Taiwan) and freshman Max Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.). The foursome also claimed the top four spots in 100-meter dash, led by Wetmore's time of 11.33. He was followed by Lin (11.52), Orenstein (11.54) and Covino (11.60).
Senior captain James Aucoin (Nathan Hale Ray/East Haddam, Conn.) was also a winner for the Bombers, taking first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.22 meters (20-5). He was also second in the triple jump (12.89 meters/42-3 1/2).
Three other Bombers earned second-place finishes Tuesday, with sophomore Andrew Brown (Monmouth Regional/Tinton Falls, N.J.) taking second in the pole vault (4.15 meters/13-7 1/4). Freshman Kyle Devins (Ausable Valley/Peru) was second in the long jump (6.11 meters/20-0 1/2) and sophomore Nate Lavieri-Scull (Simsbury/West Simsbury, Conn.) was runner-up in the 5,000-meter run (17:03.31).
The Bombers host the Empire 8 Championships Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Ithaca shared the conference title with RIT last season.
